By the time I looked at TNF 50, it was already sold out. Besides, I’ve got a personal trip coming up in December and this weekend was the only one available for a long run. Saw Fear & Loathing 50K in Ultra Signup and was totally intrigued. It’s a Fat Ass (not a race) that starts out at the top of Twin Peaks and visits all major tourist spots in San Francisco. Chihping and the volunteers totally rocked this one. With aid-stations, pre-run briefings and post-run beer and soup, this was quite the deal for a free run. Here’s my Strava activity.
Fear & Loathing 50K
Given the touristy nature of this run, I made sure I took a picture almost every mile đ Also the best thing I did was to load the route into my Suunto Ambit3 so all I had to do was make sure that the arrow was on the line! Took a lot of second guessing out and I didn’t have to keep looking down at a printed paper with the turn-by-turn instructions.

I mostly walked up the last stretch back to the top of Twin Peaks with a finish time of 5:51. But who’s counting, right? Must’ve been the hills, but my ankles were not trashed as badly as I thought they might be trashed. That was an awesome last run of the year! Again, huge kudos to Chihping and the volunteers for getting us through this run. It was a great day out in the city and this was definitely an exception to my no-asphalt rule.
